Amazing view over two lakes with a hearty cordon bleu: Restaurant Harder Kulm (27. June 2020)

| July 4, 2020 | 0 Comments

If you go up to the Harder Kulm, the only reason you go there is the view and the restaurant. I mean, there is not really much to do up there, but there is a cute little funicular which takes you up the hill and down (CHF 40.00) for an 8 minute ride each way. Once you’re up there, you’ll realise soon that it actually pays off to pay that money as the view is spectacular! Make sure to book a table way in advance as else you won’t stand a chance to sit by the edge and enjoy the view fully. If you don’t manage because they’re booked out, make sure to be there by around midday as most people book for then, and if they do not appear, you can take one of the ‘not used’ tables.

They have kind of a ‘signature dish’ up there which is a “pork cordon bleu (650gr, stuffed with ham and cheese)” (CHF 41.50) which is usually served with French fries but if you ask nicely, you also get a salad instead. As I’m not really a big fan of pork, I was a bit reluctant at first but given it’s supposedly kind of famous, I decided to give it a try anyway. And I was super positively surprised as the meat was actually delicious, not chewy, overall just very tasty, and a tremendously big portion. So, if you’re hungry, pretty much an absolute win!

For dessert, I decided to try a couple of different ice creams like “caramel”, “Chocolat blanc croquant” and “marzipan sour cherry” (CHF 3.80 per scoop) which were all really enjoyable and delicious. I can definitely recommend them too!

The “final boozy coffee” (forgot the name and the price) was perfect to end the heavy lunch and to walk back to the funicular to get down and start digesting. What I liked a lot about the place was the fact that the waitresses and waiters were super-well coordinated although there was always someone else at the table, however, their system really seemed to work as it never took long to actually deliver the request.

All in all, the Harder Kulm is definitely something worth visiting as the view is great, the people are friendly, the food is much better than expected, and price-wise it’s also decent. However, you have to make sure that you book in advance as else you’ll end up in the back where the view isn’t as great as it is from the edge.
