When you discover a not so touristy restaurant in Brera: Restaurant Osteria di Brera (10. July 2020)

And just when I had thought that I have tried almost every restaurant in Brera, I realised that it wasn’t the case. The Osteria di Brera is in that sense lovely as there is no annoying guy to try to get you in to eat. And it also looks lovely in terms of atmosphere and in terms of decor. The “bread” you get for which they charge you EUR 3.00 ‘coperto’ is okay but EUR 3.00 seems a bit over the top for that.

What was surprisingly incredible in terms of taste and flavour were the “totani ripieni al profumo mediterraneo” (EUR 14.00). I mean, I had not expected that a stuffed squid would be that amazing. I cannot explain like what exactly it tasted or what was in that thing – but damn, it was delicious!

The “fiori di zucchine ripieni di mozzarella di bufala e elici” (EUR 14.00) were good too – but not as closely as good as the squids. And when you eat them, you have to be careful with one thing which is the fact that they fill up with liquid quite badly, so when you cut them open you are in danger of getting that ‘liquid’ all over you.

The “fritturina di scampi, gamberi, calamari” (EUR 15.00) sounded better than it actually was. I mean, the seafood was good and the fried crust on top of it was fine too. However, I have had better and somehow something like a sauce was missing (at least for me). If there would have been some tartare or cocktail sauce, I would have liked it way more.

Luckily, the Italian classic, pasta, couldn’t fail me. The “tagliatelle fasolari” (EUR 18.00) which were basically tagliatelle with mussels were great! The mussels were plenty and the pasta was perfectly al dente – again! Just how it should be!

As much as the atmosphere is lovely, the waiter wasn’t entirely so. He was professional but incredibly distant and for the fact that there were almost no clients at that time, he was also rather slow and inattentive – a pity really as else I quite enjoyed the stay here.
