Better than expected but far from excellent: Restaurant Taverna del Borgo Antico (11. July 2020)
Somehow, Brera was the area of the weekend, so I ended up dining at the Taverna del Borgo Antico which looks quite touristic from the outside but the waiters at least don’t behave like that and try to lure you in. I went for the “bruschetta con pomodoro fresco e basilico (2 pieces)” (EUR 5.00) as a starter which was not only a rich portion but the tomatoes were absolutely aromatic and the bruschetta, therefore, very enjoyable.
The “la burrata d’Andria con olio E.V.O., rucola, pomodorini e mortadella con pistacchio” (EUR 15.00) was a much bigger portion than anticipated. However, given it was good – a bit too dry for my personal gusto when it comes to burrata – I didn’t mind much. The mortadella was plenty – so, I suppose it would have been nicer to have different cuts and not just one type but you get what you order!
The “risotto rosso integrale ai frutti di mare” (EUR 15.00) was exquisite. I was sceptical about it but it was not only having a nice bite but there was this flavour of seafood without it being overwhelming (which it so often is) – so, absolutely lovely!
The “pizza diavola (pomodoro, mozzarella, salame piccante)” (EUR 11.00) was served in the way how you expect your traditional Italian pizza to be. It was crispy, thin, yet full with taste!
All in all, the Taverna del Borgo Antico turned out to be better than expected. I must say, given the area and the fact that there are so many waiters trying to make you eat in their restaurant, I was more than positively surprised. The food was good, the waiter was friendly and actually also quite attentive, and the prices are more than fair (especially for the area).
