Still my favourite restaurants in Milan: Restaurant Cantina della Vetra (12. July 2020)

The Cantina della Vetra used to be my absolute favourite restaurant when I was living in Milan – and I think it still kind of is. The problem when you have something in mind which was excellent and your absolute favourite more than 10 years ago, the chances to be disappointed are huge. However, while it wasn’t as good as it was in my memory, it was still excellent. I went for the “vitello tonnato della Vetra con capperi e sedano bianco” (EUR 16.00) which was delicious as the meat was smooth, no strings, and the tuna sauce was intense yet enjoyable.

The “tartare di salmone al profumo di zenzero con crema di avocado” (EUR 15.00) was fine too but frankly a bit too light and seasoned with light flavours. It felt like there was a hint of lemon but it was actually ginger.

The “ossobuco in gremolada con risotto ai pistilli di zafferano” (EUR 26.00) on the other hand was absolutely exquisite! I mean, the meat just basically fell off the bone and the risotto was absolutely mouth-watering! The only problem was that the portion itself was way too big but I suppose it’s kind of my own fault given I tried two starters.

The waiter was incredibly friendly and attentive and made sure that everything had its place, everything was restocked when empty, and that the atmosphere was good. The only issue was that it was a bit cold outside as it became rather windy, but other than that, the Cantina della Vetra remains a reliable source of great food in the city of Milan. In normal times, I would advise booking a table early!
