Delicious Michelin starred dining with a view: Restaurant Mammertsberg (26. August 2020)

| September 2, 2020 | 0 Comments

It is almost one year ago since I’ve last been to the Restaurant Mammertsberg and I must say that I am happy I tried it again, this time outside of the Nespresso Gourmet Weeks, and got to taste their regular menu. I went for the “Tasting Menu” (CHF 180.00) which started with small, delicious bites.

The selection of “amuse bouches” was delicious. I liked a lot how they played with the various flavours, textures, and temperatures.

The fact that they served three different kinds of bread with butter and four different salts were just perfect to stuff your belly a bit before the menu fully took off.

The first course was “blue shrimps, lettuce, mango, miso, umami” which did not only look absolutely delicious but it also was exquisite. The shrimp wasn’t dry (as it, unfortunately, so often is) and the combination of the different flavours and consistencies was outstanding. The chili slices really added to the dish and made it much more interesting.

I think I haven’t tried cauliflower in that way – but it was truly enjoyable, the “cauliflower, egg yolk, caviar, roasted shallots” did look very pretty …

… and when they put the “egg yolk sauce” so neatly around the cuts of cauliflower, it still looked absolutely appealing. And it was in terms of flavour combination as well.

One of my favourites of the evening was the “beef brisket, umeboshi, shiitake, lovage, potato” as the reduction was incredible. A dream full of intensity – truly mouth-watering.

The “veal, sweetbreads, chards, apple, macaroni” looked interesting because of the symmetrical design due to the macaroni, however, it was delicious with the sweetbreads and the veal cheeks. A truly lovely combination which easily made one crave for more.

The “cheese variation, pears tart, mustard, port wine-figs, rosemary” was lovely and the fact that the cheese wagon was presented and you could pick, was just perfect. Especially after not really getting to see the cheese wagon in another Michelin starred restaurant earlier this week, it was somehow a highlight.

The last course was “plum, quark, chocolate, lemon, vanilla” and I must say, although I was almost full, and although I’m usually not that much into sweets, it was actually exquisite and super fresh.

The tower of “friandises” was the end to the dinner and honestly, a great ending.

What I would like to highlight here is that the food is definitely great and worth its Michelin star. What is even more amazing, in my humble opinion, is the garden area in which you can sit and have an amazing view onto Lake Konstanz. Secondly, the service is excellent – they are incredibly attentive and friendly, and make sure you have everything you need within no time. Their ‘own wine’, the “Clos d’Agon, 2015” (CHF 110.00) is also worth trying. Could have a tiny bit more ‘length’ to it but else, it’s very enjoyable. Booking in advance is highly recommended!
