Delicious lunch offering but on the pricier side of things: Restaurant Zunfthaus zur Waag (27. August 2020)
I am generally a fan of the Zunfthaus zur Waag, however, if they charge you CHF 46.00 for the lunch menu that is at the very upper end of what is acceptable in my personal opinion. The “tomato gazpacho” was good and refreshing and a good start for the lunch menu.
The “entrecôte Café de Paris with potato olive purée” (CHF 46.00) was great in terms of taste. However, the piece of meat was definitely too small and all in all charging CHF 46.00 for these two plates seems just a bit off for a lunch menu. I mean, I understand the location needs to be paid and you want to earn money (not blaming you for that), but it just seems off.
And if the service was flawless, that’d be more bearable. But it wasn’t. I mean, they were friendly and all but the guy who was responsible for our table somehow decided to not show up right away and when I called another waiter once, he signed it would be fine. After no one showed up for another five minutes, I waived again and he came over and said something like “I thought my colleague would come”. Uhm, okay? But he didn’t! I mean, I get it, everyone has his/her responsibilities but for CHF 46.00 for a lunch menu and CHF 7.80 for a double espresso, I kind of expect more attentiveness from the service. Still, all in all, the Zunfthaus zur Waag is nice as it has a great location where you get to sit outside plus the food is actually really good!
