A truly original Italian restaurant worth going: Restaurant Brera Zurigo (27. August 2020)

| September 4, 2020 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Brera is in for quite a while already and it wasn’t easy to get a booking, however, after finally managing, I decided to give it a good try in terms of selection of drinks and dishes. The “Tutto bene (Grappa, watermelon, cucumber, passion fruit)” (CHF 18.00) was actually an outstanding start into the evening. I have never had a drink which was served with a sorbet in it! Or “on it” to be more precise. And it was absolutely delicious!

They offer quite a few great dishes to share – the “fritta di misto di mare (granchio, cozze, calamaretti, camberetti, anchovyaioli)” (CHF 31.00) is a very generous portion of delicious fried seafood. And even when we asked for more dip, it was delivered within minutes. I must say that I was super positively surprised as the fried seafood was outstanding in terms of flavour but the portion was also much much bigger than expected (especially for Zurich standards).

The “tagliere (mortadella, salami, prosciutto, burratina, scamorza, gorgonzola, mostarda, focaccia)” (CHF 27.00) was another big selection of cold cuts and cheeses. The selection was great – about five different cheeses, bread,s and cold cuts. What more do you want? Frankly, I was blown away by the quality and the size of the dishes.

The “tagliatelle cacio e tre pepi (pepper, pecorino, sage)” (CHF 30.00) was a surprise. The size was (comparatively) small, however, still absolutely fine in terms of how much you need. What was the surprise wasn’t really the size but the fact that the three different peppers were astonishingly spicy – much more than expected, and, frankly, for me personally at the brink of being too spicy! Still enjoyable, but it couldn’t take much more to tip over.

The place is in the former “Caduff’s Wine Loft” and they made the most out of it. It is very nice inside but if you manage to get a table outside, you should definitely go for those – not so much because the view or anything is outstanding, but it is spacious and comfortable. Our waiter was super friendly and swift – and just really added to the overall evening experience.
