Kapaun – a castrated rooster for dinner: Restaurant Blasenberg (18. October 2020)

| October 23, 2020 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Blasenberg isn’t really located anywhere central, so you either have to drive up here by car or through a little hike. For me, it was the “hike version”. Once you have arrived up there, you wonder what is so special about the place – but you will figure soon. As a start to the evening, a “green salad” was served which was absolutely decent.

The real hero of the evening is the “Kapaun” (CHF 41.00 per person) which is basically a castrated rooster which is supposed to make the meat more tender. So, the idea is that you eat a whole rooster …

… which is of course taken apart for you. And I must say there is plenty of meat and it’s actually delicious. I mean, I’m usually not a big fan of poultry but this was absolutely mouth-watering.

And the good thing is, it is not only the rooster which is delicious but also the “saffron risotto” was absolutely outstanding. The fact that they placed a bit of liver on top made it even more appealing.

What wasn’t in line with the rest were the “French fries” as they weren’t crispy enough for my personal taste. However, all in all, the dish was exquisite and absolutely enjoyable!

They also offered different liquors which were intense in flavor and absolutely enjoyable.

What is great about the Blasenberg – besides the Kapaun which you have to pre-order – is the atmosphere (traditional farmer’s house / restaurant) and the friendliness and jovial interaction with the service. I understand now why the Blasenberg is a place to be visited again – lovely food, lovely atmosphere, good service. Just how things should be! Go for the Kapaun – and don’t forget to pre-order it!
