A truly outstanding game season experience: Restaurant Adler Ried (14. November 2020)

| December 3, 2020 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Adler Ried is not really located anywhere central, however, the drive there absolutely pays off. It is of pivotal importance to book your table way in advance as there are quite a few places which offer game, however, the variety of game you’re getting here is quite unique. The whole evening started with “deer sausage and bread” which was absolutely rich.

Then, I went for the “mixed plate of Waldorf salad (celery salad with chestnuts and apple slices), home-smoked deer pastrami and game terrine)” (CHF 19.50). While the Waldorf salad was rather regular in terms of taste, I definitely liked the deer pastrami and the game terrine. Especially in combination with the curry pickles it was exquisite.

Apparently, “hafenchabis” is a typical dish from the Muotathal – one I’ve never tried before. The “capricorn hafenchabis with apple slices and potatoes” (CHF 19.50) was definitely interesting in terms of flavor and texture. It was somehow intense and quite interesting overall but not really something I would be craving for. However, to try capricorn as meat was definitely a new thing for me.

The “chamois, garnished with home-made spaetzle, red cabbage, Brussels sprouts, glaced chestnuts, pear and cranberry” (CHF 38.00) was almost too much as the portions are quite generous. Again, the taste of chamois is rather intense but the meat is tender and delicious. Personally, I think you should skip one dish (and focus on two) as else it’s too much but it is definitely worth trying the different game flavors they are offering. Unfortunately, they had run out of marmot already which I would have loved to try!

The “home-made ice cream from spruce wood and quince sorbet” (CHF 8.00) were a delicious ending to the evening. Especially the spruce wood ice cream was something quite unique I haven’t tried before. The atmosphere in the restaurant is quite lovely as it is very traditional and the distances are kept so one is also Covid-19 compliant. The service varies heavily between the different staff members – while the head waitress (owner?) wasn’t really that friendly, the waiter who attended us did a marvelous job at doing his best to make it a pleasant experience.

The evening finally ended with complimentary “gingerbread and chocolate” offered by the restaurant. On top of that, they also have a lovely wine selection, e.g., with the “Bricco dell’Uccellonne, Barbera d’Asti, Braida, 2015” (CHF 107.00) and a nice Grappa “Bricco dell’Uccellonne” (CHF 12.00).

I must say that the Adler in Ried is definitely worth the travel as they have a delicious game season offering which goes beyond the regular flavors like venison and deer only. So, definitely worth trying but you have to make sure to book your table well in advance.
