Stressful when you have to be done by 7pm, but with excellent service: Chalet au Lac @ Baur au Lac (17. December 2020)

| December 21, 2020 | 0 Comments

Three years ago, I had the pleasure to visit the Chalet au Lac already once and I have fond memories of it. Despite the fact that restaurants had to close at 7pm, I was able to pay this place a brief visit (and it’s rather stressful to do so, to be honest) but luckily, it was still possible before the ‘official shutdown’ of all restaurants until January 21, 2021 was announced the next day.

They offer a “four course menu” (CHF 135.00) which comes with a ‘Swiss meat platter and farmhouse bread with butter’ which was good but also quite a portion. The “Fondue with Vacherin Fribourgeois and Gruyère à discretion” was truly delicious though. And they do not only serve fondue but you can have kind of a “mixture” of Fondue and Raclette getting the full Swiss cheese experience which was really great.

The place is very lovely and dreamy – but would, of course, be much better if there was snow. Still, even without snow it looks nice.

What I liked a lot about the place is the fact that due to the necessary distance measures, you would actually be seated quite far apart and it wouldn’t get so incredibly hot like it did three years ago.

While all is of course also a bit sad in terms of ‘how empty’ the whole place was (it was full to about a third), the staff really did an excellent job and was super friendly, jovial, and professional at the same time. Not a given in these times anymore but I must say, exquisite service. So, all in all, when the Chalet au Lac opens next year again, then I would most definitely recommend you to pay this place a visit!
