The perfect place to create a memorable evening: Restaurant Weslodge Saloon (11. March 2021)
When you’re not only greeted by good food but also by amazing service, that makes a memorable evening. And I had such an evening at Weslodge Saloon on the 68th floor of the JW Marriott. If you are lucky, you get a table by the windows so you actually see outside – but even if you don’t it’s worth the visit. The interior is lovely, spacious, and it really feels like you can enjoy it quite a bit here.
As a starter we went for the “baja fish tacos (red cabbage, jalapeño, lime, cilantro)” (85 AED) which were good and much closer to Mexican tacos than many other things I’ve tried (and they called themselves the same). The “famous fried Southern chicken (tabasco honey, ranch, house pickles)” (120 AED) though was really something else. First of all, it’s quite a large portion – yes, we were warned. Secondly, it is absolutely delicious although the thickness of the batter is a bit too much for my personal gusto.
As a main course, I went for the “tenderloin USDA prime (250gr)” (335 AED) served with “beef gravy”. Unfortunately, the meat was a bit overcooked – I had ordered medium and it was more medium-well than medium which was a pity. However, the quality of the meat was good although not outstanding.
The “truffle fries (truffle aioli, fresh truffle, parmesan)” (95 AED) and the “creamy spinach (béchamel sauce)” (50 AED) were a good addition to the main course – but in all fairness, it was a bit too much food.
What made the evening a memorable one was the interaction with the floor manager – she was not only very proficient in terms of service but also incredibly friendly and jovial without it being too much. So, definitely exactly the way a host should be. And all in all, the food was good, the atmosphere nice, and if you have wine, the selection of red wines is also rather decent overall. That said, make sure to book in advance and secure a table by the window – and then enjoy!
