A possibility for a delicious tasting menu despite Covid-19: Restaurant Adrian Quetglas (7. April 2021)
Adrian Quetglas was definitely one of the highlights of this trip – the restaurant carries one Michelin star and it’s well-deserved. What is a bit disappointing though is the fact that you’re seated outside (which is due to Corona) which makes the whole experience a rather ‘cold’ one. However, once you’re served the first few dishes, it becomes a pleasant experience despite the cold. It all starts with bread …
… with home-made aioli which is a bit different than all the ones I have previously tried and I must say that it was absolutely amazing. Smoother and yet more intense at the same time than all the others I have previously tried.
Since they offer a “tasting menu” (EUR 35.00) even for lunch with respective “wine pairing” (EUR 25.00), it was time to try exactly that. The “Selyodka pod shuboy, 2021” served with a glass of “Espumoso: Cava. Brut Nature” was an optically amazing start. And not only optically but also flavor-wise – the combination of the different textures and aromas really made it quite exquisite.
Next in line was the “Crema de alcachofas, hierbas aromáticas y embutidos mallorquines caramelizados” served with a glass of “Rosado: Chivite Las Fincas. Navarra” …
… and once the ‘herb soup’ was poured into the bowl, it turned into the true beauty it was. Well, admittedly, it looked better before the soup was poured in – but the taste of the dish was just outstanding and absolutely mouth-watering.
The third dish was a “negrito con rouille de hinojo, nero venere y salsa bullabesa” served with a glass of “Blanco: Pardevalles. Tierra de León” …
… and the dish was finalized with a bouillabaisse which was a bit too strong for my personal gusto. However, the fish was tasty, had a nice consistency (wasn’t too dry as it so often is) and finally made a good combination with the different textures and flavors.
One of my favorites was the “ternera melosa con castañas, setas y aire de cassis” served with a glass of “Tinto: Mestizaje. Vino de Pago”. The meat was incredibly tender and would just dissolve in your mouth once you took a bite. And the combination of the different herbs, the chestnuts, and the cassis ‘air’ turned out to be an incredibly delicious combination of flavors and textures.
The “degustación de quesos” (EUR 12.00) on the other hand was relatively disappointing. Not that it was any bad but it just didn’t live up to the expectations one would have after the first couple of dishes.
Last but not least, the dessert was “sabores de mi infancia, alfajor con yerba mate” served with a glass of “Vino Dulce: Enrique Mendoza. Moscatel” which was fine and made a perfect final dish of the lunch. So, to sum it up, I can definitely recommend you to have lunch, and go for the tasting menu, at Adrian Quetglas since the food is really exquisite and definitely worth trying.
If it wasn’t for the fact that you’re seated outside (which isn’t really that great in terms of weather when it’s not that warm but also in terms of atmosphere since the place is relatively close to one of the main routes and is, therefore, relatively loud. However, everything else, including the service, is great and definitely worth trying! Make sure you make your booking sufficiently in advance.
