When it sounds so promising but is yet so disappointing: Restaurant Portofino (1. June 2021)

| July 1, 2021 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Portofino was also on my to do list for quite a while and I must say that it is nice, but not as nice as other places by the lake. The general location is nice but the fact that you’re not right next to the shore and that people walk by all the time is somewhat disturbing to be honest.

However, despite the fact that it was the waitress’ first day, she did a great job. The evening started with “bread and spicy spread” which was surprisingly delicious but also quite spicy.

The “tatar di vitello al sogno di maracuja (veal, creme fraiche, passion fruit, pane carasau)” (CHF 26.00) was okay. Somehow not really outstanding or exquisite but definitely okay. But it looked prettier than it tasted.

The “carpaccio piemontese (beef carpaccio, rocket salad, ceps, chest nuts, black truffle)” (CHF 29.00) was a bit better but also far from exceptional.

The “scaloppine al Vermentino (veal scalop, vermentino sauce)” (CHF 38.00) was okay but really nothing special. At least the “risotto al zafferano e limone” (CHF 8.00) was great. I enjoyed this piece of food.

The “vitello alla milanese (veal cotelet, wild herbs, bread crumbles, mozzarella di bufala)” (CHF 52.00) on the other hand was a bit too dry for my taste.

Luckily, at least the “melone icecream” (CHF 5.50) was good again and actually aromatic.

From a food perspective, the whole thing was really somewhat of a disappointment. I mean, for the fact that the place was so hyped, I really don’t get why. After all, the food is maximum average – and nothing more.

Yeah, the view is kind of okay and the service is friendly. But that does not justify the prices for the food.

To sum it up – the Portofino is definitely overrated and from a food perspective not worth visiting. If you are just intending to go for a drink, then you should since the place is nice, the service is friendly (and also swift). Else, not on my ‘visit again list’.
