Delicious dishes with a breath-taking view: Restaurant Du Lac @ Hotel Du Lac (18. July 2021)

Talking about contrast – the day before I was on Bishorn (4’200m) and the next day I’m at the Lake Como in Italy. And the Restaurant Du Lac offers a good experience to get into civilization again. It starts with some bread and grissini which were delicious but I was a bit surprised that they would not serve olive oil or the like with the bread.

As a starter, I went for the “pork belly from Valsassina cooked at low temperature with orange marmalade, borage wild herb and potato rösti” (EUR 14.00) which was delicious. The pork belly was definitely fatty but that was the key to its success – deliciously aromatic and great in combination with the different elements on the plate – in terms of flavor and texture! Loved the starter!

As a main, I went for the “home-made taglioni pasta flavored with orange, fennel pesto, crispy missoltino (dried fish from the lake) and tomato” (EUR 14.00) which looked kinda weird since the dried frish from the lake kind of optically dominated the dish – but it turned out to be absolutely amazing. The pasta was perfectly al dente, the fennel pesto was exquisite and the dried tomatoes really added to the dish. Just remembering the flavors now when writing the review really makes my taste buds dance.

On top of that, the view from the terrace where the restaurant is located is absolutely amazing.

If you make it to Varenna, I can definitely recommend you to stay at the Hotel du Lac since they have relatively generous rooms (in terms of size), all is clean and nice, lovely service (they are super friendly and accommodating) and ultimately also good food!
