A truly Greek experience – with tasty food and some waiting time: Restaurant Oasis (28. July 2021)

| August 31, 2021 | 0 Comments

We had walked past the Restaurant Oasis a few times so it was time to give it a shot. The place is really packed and you really need to be a bit patient until things get moving. Once they do and you get served the menu, it is definitely a place where you get plenty for decent prices. The “haloumi from the Greek part of Cyprus (grilled half-fat cow, goat and sheep milk cheese, served with pita bread)” (EUR 8.80) was quite okay. The haloumi isn’t as good as in the Middle East but definitely enjoyable. And the pita bread is actually quite great.

The “Gavros (fried anchovies)” (EUR 9.00) are definitely quite amazing but I was surprised that they would not serve any kind of dip or sauce with such a portion. Admittedly, there was a slice of lemon to juice it up a bit but let’s be fair here, if you have that many fish, this little slice of lemon doesn’t really do much.

The “Gyros with tzatziki and rice” (EUR 15.80) as a main is relatively expensive compared to what you pay for the starters but the portion is plenty and all in all it’s good. Personally, I would have sorted things a bit different, i.e., the haloumi with the salad, additional tzatziki for the fried anchovies and probably the pita bread with the gyros. But, all in all, it is good food in the combination it is offered.

Luckily, you also get a “side salad” to lighten up the dish a bit. However, personally, I was surprised that it was served like 10 minutes before the main dish – which took quite long to be brought out anyways.

All in all, the restaurant Oasis is a decent place – crammed but with good dishes and fair prices. Nothing to rock your taste buds but solid.
