Traditional Cologne experience: Restaurant Deutzer Brauhaus (2. August 2021)
Sometimes you just want something hearty – and then a brewery is really the place to go. The Deutzer Brauhaus is perfect for that. They had kind of a seasonal menu where I found “new Dutch matjes filet served with red onions, black bread and butter” (EUR 8.90) which was good but also quite intense in terms of flavor. And quite a portion too. Much more fish than I had expected for that price.
The “tatar (capers, onions, pickles, egg yolk, anchovies, condiments)” (EUR 14.90) is a DIY-tatar and is great when being mixed but the condiment part is too much (if you just put it all together fully as is) for my personal gusto as it almost makes the whole thing dry. Still, the combination is good and the tatar is delicious to eat.
The service is relatively swift and you are attended properly which makes the whole experience a good one. The atmosphere is okay when you’re on the terrace but the fact that it’s located at the crossing of two streets does not necessarily add to the experience from an atmosphere perspective.
