Walking into a rare find for a lunch bargain: Restaurant Casa Amàlia (8. August 2021)

| September 16, 2021 | 0 Comments

The Casa Amàlia turned out to be a lucky find. It’s kind of hidden in a small side street between two other restaurants but it’s definitely worth visiting and it’s definitely recommended to book a table in advance. We were lucky as somehow there was still a table left. Lunch started with an “The Italian Mule (Vodka Grey Goose, Nardini Rabarbaro, zumo de lima, Spiced Ginger Beer)” (EUR 11.00) which was a good start for lunch since the Italian Mule was relatively refreshing and smooth to start.

The “amuse bouche” served then was a little cracker with a almond-based cream which was absolutely delicious and perfect to get your palate going.

The “popeyes (buñuelo de espinacas de Can Fisas y miel de panal)” (EUR 2.00 per piece) were incredible. The filling was creamy, spinachy, and so rich in flavor you would just want to eat up the rest of the dish with bread.

The “Vaya Morro! (doble cocción de careta de cerdo confitada en ajo y romero)” (EUR 5.00) on the other hand was a bit of a stretch for me. I mean, to eat pig snout was really something I haven’t done ever (I think?) or at least I can’t remember. And it was very intense in flavor but overall enjoyable. Of course, the food is relatively fatty and salty but it is still a tasty piece to eat.

The “Gamboom! (carpaccio de gamba roja, explosión de su cuello, corazón de lima y mayonesa de estragón)” (EUR 19.00) was absolutely delicious. However, the heart of the lime which was served with it, didn’t fit. I mean, it was good, yes, no question but it was way too sour. I think if you would just serve a tiny piece or cut one of these pieces in three, that’d be absolutely enough. Like this, the sourness of the lime was just so overwhelming you’d lose the taste of the gamba roja.

The “catavents (paella marinera con arroz cristalino de Pals, gamba roja, calamar i cigala)” (EUR 18.00 per person) was a great paella since the rice was actually delicious and the gambas were quite good too.

Unfortunately, optically, the final plate was not as pretty as the whole dish but it was just as delicious anyways.

The place is lovely from an interior design perspective, the waiters and waitresses are professional and swift. So, the Casa Amàlia is really a rare find which I can recommend you to visit.
