The thing with brasseries – good food but low comfort: Restaurant Brasserie Lolita (14. August 2021)
I have my beef with Brassieries. Somehow I like them since they offer good food in a somewhat nice atmosphere and I must say in this case, the waiter was incredibly cool and caring although we were a not easy group of nine. In any case, the fact that they always have such little tables and chairs and all is so crammed together is something I truly dislike. But, more about the food. We had booked a table outside and since we were the group we were, there was no choosing from the menu (which I do not entirely understand) but we were just served stuff. It started with “burrata with caponata, basil oil and homemade focaccia bread” (EUR 13.50) which was decent.
The second course in line was “salmon tartare with avocado cream, green herbs, sour cream and brioche croutons” (EUR 13.50) which was definitely good but the sour cream was a bit too generously applied so it did leave kind of a sourish taste to the whole thing.
The third starter was “steak tartare with cress and crostinis” (EUR 12.50) which was much more delicious than I had expected. Actually, a really good beef tartare which was super enjoyable. It could have been a little bit spicier to fit my gusto, but else, just great.
The selection of mains started with “pumpkin risotto with basil oil and breadcrumbs” (EUR 16.50) which was okay but far from creating a great experience of flavor for your taste buds.
The second main course was “tuna with sauce gribiche, potatoes, haricots greens and flat-leaf parsley” (EUR 23.50) which was, surprisingly, cooked as it should be so it was still nicely raw inside and, therefore, quite enjoyable.
There was a little side salad which was also quite nice …
… however, the fries (although the mayonnaise was good) were not really matching expectations.
The third main was “sirloin steak with artichoke salad and pepper gravy” (EUR 22.00) which was actually great. The meat was perfectly cooked medium as it should be, had a nice grill flavor and was overall truly enjoyable – including the underlying artichoke salad.
What I considered quite hilarious was the fact that the toilets were labeled with “Maison du Pipi” – definitely entertaining.
All in all, the Brasserie Lolita is a nice place which offers good food but it has that Brasserie atmosphere which just doesn’t offer enough space, I kinda dislike.
