Great food deal but way too loud music for a restaurant: Restaurant Baiben (21. August 2021)

Sometimes you have to be lucky. Since we somehow hadn’t booked anything for Saturday evening and Mallorca was absolutely packed, I considered myself super lucky scoring a reservation online for Baiben. However, it turned out that I had picked Sunday instead of Saturday so we ended up standing there not really having a reservation. Luckily, the staff was super friendly (after some initial waiting time) and found a table for two. We went for the “feast for 2 or more” (EUR 45.00 per person) which started with “red prawns parchments with mango and ginger dip” and “Cochinita Pibil (crispy tacos of spicy confit suckling pig)”. While the red prawn parchments were absolutely nothing exciting, the tacos were delicious.

As a third dish of the starter round, the “daily’s catch ceviche with a yellow aji-pepper and mango dressing” was refreshing and nice. A lot of liquid, to be honest, but tasty in terms of flavor.

As a main, we took the “whole spear roasted sea bass with ‘Cheroulah’ sauce” which was not looking like too much to eat and it wasn’t, but it was good and very enjoyable.

The “potatoes” with which it was served were absolutely good. Loved them.

The “caramelized lemon tart with blackberry ice cream” was definitely too much for my personal gusto. And not really all that enjoyable but I am sure others would disagree – no wonder though since I’m not a big fan of sweets anyways.

The place itself is nice in terms of atmosphere but it’s way too crowded and way too loud. Especially the fact that you have a lot of relatively loud music in the background doesn’t really contribute to a regular dinner conversation. The service was, once we were seated, super nice and relatively swift but not all that swift in the end as there are so many tables and although there are quite a few waiters, it was so busy, so one still had to be quite patient. Still, all in all, the Baiben is absolutely fine to visit.
