Super swift services and tasty dishes: Restaurant Shimai (19. September 2021)

| November 5, 2021 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Shimai offers a wide variety of different dishes and I must say I was positively surprised by the fact that they were completely booked, but quick and friendly in their service and actually offer good dishes. I started with “edamame (soy beans, chili, sea salt)” (EUR 5.00) which were okay to start.

The “salt & pepper softshell crab (roasted soft shell crab, chili, wasabi mayonnaise)” (EUR 14.00) was good in terms of flavor and crispiness – and I also liked that you were able to eat the whole crab.

The “mixed dumplings” (EUR 11.00) which were served with three different sauces were good as well. Somehow you would have wanted one or two more of the same sometimes but it is definitely great to try different dumplings in one evening.

I was super intrigued by the “beef ceviche”, or to be more precise, the “Khmer beef ceviche (marinated beef filet, coriander mix, nam pla mix sauce, lemon grass, peanuts, roasted onions, krupuk chips)” (EUR 18.00) since I definitely had issues imagining beef to become ceviche and while it is of course an ‘approximation’, it actually had a certain similarity which was striking.

Finally, I went for the “spicy beef lemongrass chili (black angus beef, lemon grass, chili, sambal, vegetables, spicy)” (EUR 17.00) which was not only quite a portion but also good and nicely spicy at the same time.

The Restaurant Shimai is ultimately a relatively simple but appealing place. The interior is nice, the service is swift and super friendly, and the dishes are good and fair in price. Just make sure to book your table in advance as you probably won’t stand a chance as a walk-in.
