Decent Asian dishes but nothing surprising: Restaurant Oanh 65 (20. September 2021)

| November 6, 2021 | 0 Comments

Somehow it was “Asian time” since the second evening in a row, I felt like eating something ‘Asian’ (yes, I know, a strong generalization). However, the “Cha Gio Vietnman (crispy spring rolls filled with pork, glass noodles, taro, served with fish sauce (3 pieces))” (EUR 6.50) were actually quite delicious. The “Bo La Lot (grilled beef with lemon grass wrapped in wild betel leaves) (4 pieces)” (EUR 6.90) were decent too but not as good as the spring rolls.

However, the “Hoanh Tanh Chien (crispy wantans filled with shrimps and chicken with sweet sour sauce) (4 pieces)” (EUR 7.50) were definitely something very likeable even though they were a bit too big for the sauce plate making it a bit tricky to eat them in one bite (and eating them in several bites would definitely be possible but rather tricky overall).

The “Kombi Dumplings (mixed dumplings ‘Hao Cao’, ‘Xiu Mai’, ‘Hao Cao Chay’ with soy sauce) (4 pieces)” (EUR 7.60) were nice to try but somehow I figured that they have two of the same and that is kind of a weird mix. Either make it four different ones or two and two. But, they were good.

The “Vit Gung (grilled vegetables in a slightly spicy ginger sauce with duck)” (EUR 18.90) was my choice as a main and while it was good, it was definitely too much – and personally, I wouldn’t have minded a bit more sauce and flavor profile through that. But the duck was good and rich to eat.

The place is functional and nice, however, the tables are a bit too close to each other for my personal gusto (despite the dividers) but else, I cannot complain. The service is friendly and also generally swift – and in combination with generally good dishes, you definitely will have to book your table in advance. Even on a Monday evening.
