Korokke – A dish completely new to me but quite tasty: Thu My Marie Concept-Restaurant (4. October 2021)

| December 4, 2021 | 0 Comments

I was looking for a simple but tasty place which still offers late evening dinners and found the Thu My Marie Concept Restaurant. The name was a bit confusing but it had good ratings on Google and I was hungry. So, time to go and try. Since I always like to try new things, I decided to go for non-regular drinks like the “fresh passion fruit lime juice (fresh passion fruit and lime with cane sugar and ice cubes)” (EUR 4.90) and the “pineapple lassi (pineapple juice, coconut milk and ice cubes)” (EUR 4.20) which were both good but had both too many ice cubes in them making it a bit tricky to get enough to drink.

As always in Asian restaurants, I started with the “edamame (young soybeans, boiled and salted)” (EUR 4.90) since they are served quickly. Usually, I like them covered in salt and when I saw that they didn’t have a lot of salt on them, I was a bit frustrated at first, but upon having tried a few, I realized that they were actually very good the way they were prepared.

They also offer a food I have never even heard before called “korokke” which is some kind of fried thing. And I must say that it is actually a nice thing to try. I went for a set called “korokke beef set (set of ‘beef korokke (korokke stuffed with seasoned ground beef)’, ‘Vietnam korokke (korokke stuffed with Vietnamese ground beef seasoned with coriander and sesame oil)’, and ‘grandma’s korokke (korokke stuffed with potato and beef seasoned with ginger, garlic and soy sauce)’ served with Tonkatsu sauce)” (EUR 7.00). It looked like I got three times the same thing but it turned out that the fillings were actually different ones and secondly, that these fried things called korokke are not only quite staffed (so it’s quite a portion) but also that they are super delicious. So, definitely something I can recommend anyone to try if you have the possibility.

As a main, I went for the “Com Vit Xao Rau (crispy fried duck filet with zucchini, carrots, onions and paprika in dark Vietnamese sauce. served with jasmine rice and Asian herbs)” (EUR 16.90) which was a bit of a disappointment. The quality of the duck was not really that exquisite. There was a lot of fat and chewy parts which is to some extent okay but not to the extent it was here. Secondly, the ‘dark Vietnamese sauce’ was super watery and not really tasting like much. I would definitely have loved some more intense flavors to the dish.

The place is simple in terms of interior design but comfortable and nice. The waiter was super friendly and super swift and made sure I had everything I needed. Overall, I can recommend the restaurant Thu My Marie Concept since it offers good dishes, some very interesting ones like korokke too, and the service is friendly and swift.
