Exquisite service and good dishes – but pricey: George Bar & Grill (6. October 2021)

| December 6, 2021 | 0 Comments

It’s approximately three years ago since I’ve last been to the George Bar & Grill so I was curious if the place was still like it was last time. To start the evening, we ended up going to the bar and enjoyed a few drinks like the “Ganador (homemade cucumber infused vodka, St. Germain, kiwi puree, homemade basil syrup, elderflower)” (CHF 20.00) which was refreshing and light …

… or the “Neoen (Tanqueray Rangpur Gin, Streuli Gravensteiner Apple, Manadrin Napoleon, apple syrup, lime juice, mandarin espuma)” (CHF 21.00) which was super damn intense and almost too much for my personal gusto. But delicious.

As a starter I went for the “ceviche (zander, pumpkin purree, ginger, grapefruit, peperoncini caviar)” (CHF 26.00) which was refreshing, a decent portion, and generally better than I had expected.

Katia, the waitress responsible for our table, did a marvelous job as she was friendly, even jovial, but still remaining professional just as you would wish service staff to be. Great service!

As a main, I went for the “entrecôte (220gr) with sauce Béarnaise” (CHF 58.00) which was definitely on the more expensive side of things but the meat quality was good, the meat was prepared as I had asked for, and the sauce Béarnaise was generally enjoyable in terms of quality and consistency.

The “risotto” (CHF 8.00) which was one of the side dishes I had chosen was great since it wasn’t overcooked but actually just perfect in terms of flavor and consistency.

The “grilled pumpkin vegetables” (CHF 8.00) were okay but far from exceptional and there were definitely too many other types of vegetables in there for it to be called pumpkin vegetables.

The wine of choice that evening was a 1.5L bottle of “Calados del Puntido 2014, Tempranillo, Vinedos de Paganos, Rioja-Laguardia” (CHF 160.00) which was definitely enjoyable and a good bargain. All in all, the George Bar & Grill is on the more expensive side of things for the amount you get but the dishes are of high quality, the atmosphere is nice, and the service that evening was simply exquisite. So, even though not on the cheap side, I can definitely recommend you to visit the George Bar & Grill.
