A decent steakhouse in the basement: Restaurant Ponchos (18. October 2021)
The Restaurant Ponchos was rated rather high on Google so I gave it a try for a tasty steak for dinner and started with a “Cocktail de Langostinos Chilenos” (EUR 10.90) which was absolutely okay. I mean, it’s not like you should expect too much from a shrimp cocktail with Thousand Island dressing but it was fine.
As a main, I went for the “Bife de Lomo (200gr)” (EUR 22.90) and took a “panocha asada de cebollas y pimiento” (EUR 4.20) as a side. Frankly, I was a bit surprised by the name of the dish since ‘panocha’ also means pussy in Mexican Spanish so I was confused for a second, but the skewer itself was good. The meat was tender but it was somehow lacking flavor. Still, the dish was fine.
The “sauce bérnaise” (EUR 3.50) which I had as a side was mainly generous. Else, the sauce wasn’t really much to remember in terms of flavor.
The place is in the basement so you don’t have any reception which is actually quite nice since it allows you to digital detox for a while. Since the place seems to be an old cellar where you have a number of smaller rooms which are joined together, it is not very easy to get the waitress since it’s hard to see her passing by. This leads to some waiting time when trying to settle the bill. Secondly, if you want to pay by card, you’ll have to walk up to the counter and pay there. All in all, the Restaurant Ponchos is absolutely okay – but nothing more than that.
