A hole in the wall restaurant worth visiting: Restaurant Bai Lu Noodles (20. October 2021)

| December 22, 2021 | 0 Comments

I randomly found the Bai Lu Noodles on Google Maps and it turned out to be a great find. The place is relatively small so you either have to be lucky to score a table or to call in advance. I think, inside about max. 15 people can get seated and then it’s already at full capacity. However, we turned out to be lucky and score a table. I went for the “Xian Zha Su Rou (baked pork with sichuan pepper)” (EUR 5.80) which was definitely a sin in terms of calories but also delicious in terms of flavor.

The “Hong You Chao Shou (home-made dumplings with minced pork, chili oil, spring onions, sichuan pepper)” (EUR 5.80) were delicious again in terms of their stuffing but they were also on the rather spicy side. Personally though, I loved the dumplings.

As a main, I went for one of the noodle soups since the place is somewhat famous for their noodles (I mean, the name says so). So, I took the “Hong Shao Niu Rou Mian (noodle soup with beef broth, beef, broccoli, carrots, seasonal vegetables, coriander, red chili, ginger, garlic)” (EUR 11.90) which looked like a huge bowl when served but was only full to about 25-30% of the bowl which seemed a bit like a disappointment. On the other hand, it made sense since like that you were able to enjoy your noodle soup without ruining your shirt. Flavorwise, I liked the noodle soup a lot – although the broth could have been more intense in my personal opinion.

As a beverage, I went for the “honey pomelo ice tea” (EUR 3.40) which was definitely too sweet for my personal gusto. All in all, I would definitely visit the Bai Lu noodles again – great place with tasty dishes and a lovely atmosphere as well as quick and friendly service. Make sure to book in advance or be ready to sit outside (in the cold).
