A true 1 Michelin star gem hidden away in Como: Restaurant Kitchen (28. October 2021)

| January 1, 2022 | 0 Comments

Although I have previously stayed at the Sheraton Lake Como, I was not aware that the hotel hosts a 1 Michelin Star restaurant called ‘The Kitchen’ and I must say, it’s a pity that I haven’t tried it before since it’s actually absolutely amazing. I went for the “Contemporary Path – Tasting Menu” (EUR 95.00) which started with the “Chef’s Welcome – eggplant mousse coated with tomato, mozzarella, pesto base and Parmesan butterfly” which looked incredibly and was also rather decent in terms of taste.

The “home-made bread and butter” were quite simple but overall very enjoyable – simple but great.

The “grissini” were some of the longest grissini I have ever been served in a restaurant and they were not only long but also absolutely tasty.

Next in line were the “raw red prawns, foie gras, cherries” where the foie gras provided a nice basis and the prawns were actually delicious in terms of flavor.

The “egg cooked at low temperature 70°, ‘cacio e pepe’, sumac, laurel” was great once you popped the egg and the egg yolk would spread apart and melt with the other ingredients in your mouth.

The “ravioli with ossobuco, gremolada, finger lime, and saffron” was actually one of my favorite courses that evening. The staffing of the ravioli was incredibly rich and mouth-watering. The ravioli were cooked perfectly al dente and the filling with the ossobuco would just kind of explode in your mouth which was exquisite.

The “seared shi-drum, bearnaise sauce, pak choi” on the other hand did not reach that exact level but was still very enjoyable overall.

Last but not least, I loved the dessert for it’s beauty. The “passion fruit, thyme, apple and ginger” and …

… “mint sauce” turned out to not only look amazing but was also absolutely incredibly in terms of taste. Definitely a lovely ending to a great evening.

Last but not least, you would get some “friandises” served which were as good as the rest.

To sum it up, the food experience at The Kitchen is definitely one you want to repeat since the dishes are super delicious and the prices are more than fair for what you get. I can definitely recommend you to dine there – just make sure to book in advance as even on a Thursday evening, the place was completely booked.

On top of a lovely view, the service was great and super attentive – and the fact that you get great Barolo (“Damilano, Barolo Canubbi, 2009)” for a ‘relatively’ decent price of EUR 130.00 per bottle (considering the cost if you buy the same bottle over the counter in Switzerland). For me, it’s definitely a place which I’ll visit again passing on my way to Italy or spending a weekend in Como.
