Good food but price-wise on the heftier side: Restaurant Pantry Berlin (1. November 2021)

The Pantry was a recommendation of a friend of mine and I must admit that I liked the place in general. However, you should be aware that the place is relatively crowded and loud and that the seats are quite a bit apart which makes a regular conversation a bit of a challenge. Once you had been able to place your order (and you have to be a bit patient there), you are served some “bread and spread” which was quite delicious.

As a starter, I went for the “Pantry Tapas (sashimi, oyster, yakitori tofu, pulpo fuego, pork belly)” (EUR 19.50) and while the dish was great, respectively, the individual elements were good (didn’t try the oyster since I really didn’t feel like oysters), they were also nothing mind-blowing. However, they give you a good overview of the capabilities of the kitchen – flavor-wise. But, for Germany, and especially Berlin, I’d say the prices are a bit on the heftier side.

What was absolutely amazing though were the “Iberico pork spare ribs with pimientos de padrón, wild herb salad, and Pantry fries” (EUR 28.50). The sides were not really that outstanding but fine – however, the spare ribs were absolutely delicious since the marinade was mouth-watering and they had been cooked for so long that you could easily strip down the meat off the bones.

The “Pantry’s Mezcalita (Atenco Mezcal, agave syrup, lime juice, Triple Sec & Lagavulin)” (EUR 16.00) was definitely an interesting drink but was a bit too much on the salty side for me personally since the glass rim was really thickly covered in it which I didn’t appreciate that much. However, other than that, it was actually quite enjoyable.

The Pantry Berlin is a nice place which serves good food in a nice atmosphere but with a bit inattentive service and definitely on the heftier side of pricing for German standards. Still, worth visiting – just make sure that you are booking well in advance since else you won’t be able to score a table last minute.
