While the experience itself is great the staff really makes a difference: Lufthansa First LH498 FRA – MEX (14. November 2021)

It is a bit more than 1.5 years ago since I’ve had the pleasure to fly First Class (with Swiss from Zurich to Osaka) and a bit more than 3 years ago since I had the same pleasure with Lufthansa (on the same flight). And I was very much looking forward to the whole ride again. It started with a glass of “Cuvée Grand Siècle, Champagne Laurent-Perrier, France” which was absolutely amazing to start the flight.

The ride started with a little prawn appetizer which was super lovely to begin the feast.

What I always like is the first course in Lufthansa First, the “caviar with the traditional garnishes” accompanied by a good glass of “‘M’ Colchagua Valley Single Vineyard, Montes Alpha, Chile, 2013”. The caviar is always a lovely experience in that setting. And the wine was exquisite. What wasn’t so exquisite was the fact that I had ordered vodka with the caviar but it wasn’t served.

Next in line was a “salad of salsify, sauce Bolzano style and quail egg” which was simple yet nothing extraordinary.

The “roasted sea bass with saffron and vanilla fumet, baby spinach and mashed parsley root” was quite okay as well and definitely a sound main course but nothing you’d come back for.

The “lukewarm gingerbread pudding with grapefruit and vanilla crumbles” on the other hand was something I enjoyed quite a bit.

All in all, the experience in Lufthansa First is a pleasant one but it doesn’t change the fact that you’re in a metal tube for 12+ hours during the day making it hard to sleep. So, if you have to fly long-haul, then First definitely is a great choice but mostly so if you’re able to book it with miles.
