A lovely experience with dust-induced surroundings: Restaurant Amaya (18. November 2021)

The Amaya was another restaurant recommended in ‘La Liste’ and frankly speaking, not a bad one either. I went for the “ceviche de almeja generosa, con leche de tigre y aguacate” (220 MXN) which was definitely not really what I had hoped for since I did not understand that almeja means stomach – so it was not really the regular kind of fish ceviche I had hoped and wished for.

However, the “tostada acevichada y calamar frito” (175 MXN) on the other hand was absolutely delicious. The combination of ingredients with the freshness in combination with the crunchiness of the tostada just made it a perfect bite (a bit a messy one, admittedly, but perfect in terms of taste).

The “salchicha de cerdo Berkshire con ensalada de papa” (185 MXN) was quite a portion. I liked the way the potatoes were prepared and I must say the salchicha was good too, however, I would have wished for some kind of sauce/dip for the sausage.

Since it was a moment to celebrate, I decided to have a little drink called “Mundo Raro (Mezcal Archivo Maguey Espadin, Concentrado de Jengibre, Limón, Cerveza Clara)” (198 MXN) which was good but, personally, wouldn’t have been in need of the salt on the rim of the glass. However, it was a good drink and definitely enjoyable.

Since the occassion to visit this place was the celebration of a birthday, the kitchen surprised our table with a few different desserts on the house to celebrate said birthday. The selection was not only amazing but also absolutely delicious – just a perfect ending to a great lunch.

The place is simple yet appealing and you definitely feel comfortable here since they are overall very attentive and making sure you have everything you want and need right away. So, service-wise, besides two small reminders to get me some more sparkling water, it was absolutely outstanding!

The only nuisance was the fact that the neighbor of the restaurant was somehow grinding the old color off his walls which led to a continuous dust flow in front of the restaurant and through the windows which wasn’t very pleasurable. Other than that, I can definitely recommend the Amaya!
