A true bargain: A full traditional Mexican meal for less than 6 CHF: Restaurant El Campanario (23. November 2021)
Authenticity is the charm – the El Campanario is an authentic and traditional Mexican restaurant where you can find a lot of locals enjoying a bite in the evening. I went for the “plato mexicano (taco, sope, enchilada, pozole)” (120 MXN) as it really offers a bit of everything. And while I was somehow surprised how much you can really get for approximately CHF 5.50, I was not only surprised by how cheap the place is but also how good the food actually tasted. The pozole was great, the taco and sope as well, and the enchilada okay.
The “tamal” was quite delicious too – long time since I have had one but absolutely enjoyable. So, you get all of that …
… plus some “Atole” which made it, overall, an amazing bargain!
The place is super simple and super down to earth but it offers what you are looking for – simple, traditional, authentic Mexican cuisine in exactly that kind of surrounding.
You gotta be a bit patient when it comes to the speed of the service (at first at least) but once you’re in and seated, and asked for someone to attend you, then things are actually sorted out rather quickly. So, all in all, the El Campanario offers you a very authentic Mexican food experience! Worth trying! And it’s definitely a bargain!
