17. April 2011: Restaurant at the Fish Market

| April 22, 2011 | 0 Comments

The Hamsi (5 TL) is definitely the most recommendable dish you can find in the restaurant at the fish market – it’s a plate full of little grilled fishes which are served with salad and onions and only cost 5 TL. And believe me, the plate is more than enough to actually satisfy your hunger. The fishes are crunchy and tasty, only a little bit of salt and lemon juice on top, and it’s perfect.

Additionally, I had a Salata Duble (5 TL) which was quite okay too. The sauce was kind of boring, but the salad itself was okay. The whole dish comes with bread so you can somehow make your perfect fish sandwich.

The fishes are prepared on a large grill right next to the “entrance” of the restaurant. There is a huge selection of different fishes you can choose from but the Hamsi definitely have the best price-performance ratio.

The “restaurant” itself is more a tent and looks respectively shabby (it’s clean but not really inviting) and you get to sit outside or under the plastic roof.

The restaurant is located in the “fishermen’s street” at the harbour where you can also take a boat to get to the other side. It is not really appealing from outside but it’s definitely worth going! Also, there won’t be many tourists but 99% Turkish people – always a good sign if the locals eat at a certain place.

The service is okay, they are friendly and bring the ordered things to your table within a reasonable amount of time. So, overall, the Restaurant at the fish market is definitely worth going! Just make sure that you walk to the fish market area and follow that street and after about 20 meters or so, you can see it, that’s the place we’ve been and which is great!
