A waiter with great sales skills and a good drinks bargain: Restaurant Sonora Grill (30. November 2021)

| February 24, 2022 | 0 Comments

The original intention was to go for a drink at the Sonora Grill, however, since the waiter really does a good job at cross-selling and basically made clear that you get two drinks for one if you pick a starter so we decided to go for some tacos, i.e. the “center loin tacos (with cheese crust, avocado and grilled onions) (315 MXN)” and the waiter was so nice to also bring us “truffled French fries” (100 MXN) which we hadn’t asked for. Since it made it still cheaper in terms of the drinks, it’s okay, I guess, but not really the way to do things.

What they offered on top was a nice selection of (some rather) spicy salsas and “frijoles con queso with tortilla chips” which was nice to dig in to lay a foundation for the drinks.

I went for the “Caribe Colada (Capitán Morgan spiced rum, natural coconut & pineapple extract, citrics extract, clarification, edible flowers, dehydrated pineapple)” (300 MXN) which was definitely a drink I enjoyed, however, as fancy as it looks, it was also prepared in a way that you wouldn’t have much to drink in there. The drink size is rather ridiculous to be honest.

At least you get a nice little home-made good bye ice cream after you’ve settled the bill – which I consider a nice gesture. The ice cream is basic but enjoyable.

All in all, the Sonora Grill is a typical hotel restaurant – decent food, high prices, and staff which makes sure that they optimize the spending of the guests (in a very friendly way though).
