My best restaurant find on the island: Restaurant Donaire (10. December 2021)

It’s not that easy to find a place for dinner last minute which fulfills certain expectations. After deciding short notice to go and have something to eat, I had to do quite a bit of researching and planning to find a place which actually offered what I wanted.

Once seated and being able to place the order, some “bread and spread with five different kinds of butters” were served and I must say that this was the first time on Tenerife where I felt that the dishes were about to be a success.

The “amuse bouche” which was served – I somehow forgot to write down what it was – was definitely a good start.

The “baby squid (Canarian ‘bonita’ potato, coriander pilpil)” (EUR 22.00) was a simple dish in its presentation but was actually quite enjoyable since the squid was smooth, tasty, and in combination with the potatoes and the coriander pilpil also a nice combination of different textures and flavors.

The “veal cheek (acidulated yucca puree, veal jus with hoisin)” (EUR 38.00) was absolutely amazing. The meat was tender, dissembling when you would pinch it with your fork, and it was not only that – it was full of flavor, full of moments created for your taste buds to dance.

Last but not least, some “friandises” were served which were nice but nothing extraordinary.

The place is spacious and generally lovely in terms of atmosphere.

And so is the view. I mean, not exactly what you see in terms of motive but the fact that the restaurant is located on the 4th floor and you have a view from above is overall quite appealing. Unfortunately, in terms of location, it’s not located right by the sea so the view is not good as it could be.

The restaurant is located in the GF Victoria Hotel which is a nice place in terms of design …

… but you have to find the entrance to the hotel since the main elevator was, at this point in time, out of order, so you have to walk to the very back of the hotel to get to the restaurant. The service at the restaurant is, in any case, exquisite, since they are super present, super friendly, and make sure you have everything you need and want at all times. So, the Donaire is definitely a restaurant I can highly recommend.
