Decent and traditional Valaisanne dishes in a nice atmosphere: Restaurant La Ferme (11. March 2022)

It wasn’t as easy as I had expected to find a restaurant in Saas-Fee which was going to be open on a Friday for lunch. Finally, I found “La Ferme” and it turned out to be quite nice. The food they serve is rather simple but authentic and nice. I went for the “white wine (Fendant) and cheese soup from the Valais” (CHF 10.50) as a starter which was nice since it was thick, creamy, cheesy and had a nice taste of Fendant.

The “braised veal cheeks in a casting pot” (CHF 38.00) sounded super promising but to be honest, they didn’t really blow my mind. I’m used to cheeks which basically fall apart by themselves – which is what I was hoping for. And while they definitely were tender, they were not as tender as I had hoped/wished for.

The “polenta and winter vegetables” varied in quality. I always find the selection of vegetables at these ‘regular’ restaurants a bit boring. On the other hand, the polenta was quite enjoyable – especially in combination with the sauce of the veal cheeks.

The place is quite nice – traditional, simple, but still sufficiently up to date so you feel comfortable.

The waitress was super friendly, relatively swift, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout lunch. All in all, the La Ferme is not a place you should visit for an extraordinary culinary experience but if you’re looking for a place which offers decent, traditional Swiss food in a traditional but comfortable atmosphere, the La Ferme is a good choice.
