Simply put, a place to forget: Restaurant Fondue Stübli @ Walliserhof (11. March 2022)

What am I supposed to say about this? “Well well” is probably the best description. The evening of the event basically started with some small nibbles, i.e., chick peas with tomatoes” which was quite nice. I actually enjoyed that bite quite a lot. Might be due to its simplicity or due to the fact that I was starving.

The “cold cuts and cheese” added to the happiness. Simple but good cold cuts and quite interesting little dried sausages. So, so far, all was good. Then things started to go south.

It took them a solid 30 minutes to serve the salad. I get it, there is a few people wanting salad. But 30 minutes? I mean, it’s something you can prepare, something which is easy to serve, to plate, to finish. And it definitely shouldn’t take 30 minutes. In any case, the “small salad with nuts” was overall fine.

Then, another 30+ minutes. For the fondue. Now, the portion was super generous. We had three such full pans of cheese fondue on our table for 9 people. We all ate quite well and we were not even remotely able to finish all of it. While I appreciate the concept of “better too much than too little”, it would have been much better if it would have been served quicker but less. Plus, to be fair, the fondue was far from great. Eatable, yes. Much more than that? No.

While the place itself is quite nice in terms of interior design – a rather traditional wooden interior, and the waitress was friendly (but not that swift), I cannot really recommend the Fondue Stübli @ Walliserhof for dinner – at least not for fondue. And personally, I wouldn’t go with larger groups again.
