A rather expensive lunch experience but one worth paying for: Restaurant Pianostrada Laboratorio di Cucina (20. March 2022)

Luckily, I had booked the “Pianostrada Laboratorio di Cucina” in advance since else it’s relatively difficult to score a table as a walk-in. The place is nice but if you’re unlucky you get a relatively small table which makes it hard to put everything on there. Once you’ve placed your order, you get a bit of focaccio (which is delicious) with some salt and olive oil. Perfect to get your palate started.

As a first starter, the “Fior di Zucca fritta” (EUR 18.00) was lovely since there were slices of mozzarella as well as anchovies in between the pieces. And the combination of the fried flavors, the zucchini flower itself, the creaminess of the mozzarella and the saltiness of the anchovy made for a great combination.

The “Angelo Feroci Beef Tatare (served with smoked burrata cheese, honey and lemon, fresh and cooked asparagus, marjoram and sweet and sour onions)” (EUR 26.00) looked lovely but it also looked a bit small on a huge plate. And it was a bit small. However, the combination of the different ingredients made for a great bite. Not necessarily a beef tatare as you know it since you don’t taste the beef too much but the different ingredients went really well together and created an enjoyable experience.

The “homemade Tagliolini (butter and lemon, crunchy and steamed artichoke, Parmesan cheese, marjoram and mint)” (EUR 27.00) were exquisite. And not because the mint leaves were somehow gold sprayed (which looked super lovely) but because the pasta was perfect in terms of the bite you had, the texture was as it has to be. The sauce with the lemon and the mint was mega refreshing really making it a delicious experience.

“The Sea (linguine ‘Mancini’, garlic oil and chili pepper, red and purple prawns, wild pepper and lemon zest)” (EUR 30.00) was almost as good a bite. The little prawns were delicious and the pasta was in the beginning perfect too in terms of texture. Of course, since there was quite a bit of sauce, it kept ‘cooking’ making it a bit less great in terms of bite over time but still all in all exquisite.

What I absolutely loved about the place was the fact that there is an open kitchen and you can watch the chefs how they are preparing the food for you. It’s super hectic, super busy, but always looks somewhat calm and coordinated – and I think you can taste that in the food. To be fair though, the time between the last starter and the first main was more than 30′ which is a bit too long for pasta. At least in my personal opinion.

Other than that, the Pianostrada Laboratorio di Cucina is a place I can definitely recommend you to try – book in advance and make sure you get to try as many dishes as possible. It’s not an entirely cheap experience when you look at the prices but it’s one worth doing.
