Simple but good Asian dishes for a sharing lunch: Restaurant 1000grad (23. April 2022)

And the Asian food experience continued. The 1000grad is a nice little restaurant along the KuDamm and offers a bunch of small and large dishes. I decided to go for the sharing approach, ordering a few dishes for the table. Starting with the “Buddha’s Goldfinger (softshell crabs in a panko coat, sweet sour, basil cream)” (EUR 10.00) which was quite nice but could have been a tiny bit crispier.

The “cow loves herb (Argentinean entrecôte, shiitake mushrooms, coriander, Europe grass, fish gravy, onion rouge)” (EUR 10.50) was good in terms of texture and flavour – I wouldn’t really have needed the mushrooms, but the beef was fine.

The “salmon tartar (salmon cubes, salad hearts, rice powder, fish gravy, coriander, Europe grass, onion rouge)” (EUR 12.50) turned out to be quite a portion and was, overall, enjoyable.

The “Nori’s Green Pond (grilled chicken in nori, green rice, basil cream)” (EUR 6.50) on the other hand was a bit disappointing. Not that it wasn’t good, but the nori leaf was somewhat overpowering the other ingredients and flavours in a way so you wouldn’t really notice the flavour of the chicken any more.

The “stir-fried jasmine rice with chicken” (EUR 6.50) was good, actually one of my favourite dishes on the table. I’m just a sucker for fried rice!

The “Barbary in Maui (grilled Barbary duck, veggie stick, carambola pineapple)” (EUR 12.00) on the other hand wasn’t really to my liking. I figured I like crispy duck much more, since the duck skin usually really adds to the flavour and texture profile.

The place is relatively simple, as mentioned, but it has somewhat nice “corners”, i.e., some areas of the restaurant are rather standard while others are actually quite nicely decorated.

The waitress was not only friendly, but she was also, generally, very swift. Since she had forgotten the “double espresso” I had ordered in the end, she offered it to me as a gesture of good will. Which is something I really appreciated. I was not even upset that she had forgotten it since she took care of it immediately once I reminded her, but she was doing that just like that. Which is what I call going the extra mile for the customer and making sure your customers leave happily.
