Much better on paper than in reality: Restaurant El Rincón Argentina (30. April 2022)

| June 2, 2022 | 0 Comments

Great and not great at the same time. The El Rincón Argentina is – as the name suggests – an Argentinean restaurant and offers what you would expect: meat. The evening starts with “bread and aioli” though, which is simple and intense but enjoyable.

The “tatar de morcilla with apples and onions, served with celery salad” (CHF 19.00) which I had as a starter was generally enjoyable. The combination of the blood sausage with the celery and the apples makes for a great combination. However, the blood sausage was a tat too dry for me.

We decided then to share “empanadas” (CHF 6.00 per piece; CHF 36.00) and I had the one with a chorizo filling which was okay. Nothing more than that, but also nothing less.

The “bife de lomo (300gr) with ratatouille” (CHF 69.00) was quite fine. The quality of the meat was good, and it was cooked as I had requested – so nothing to complain here, but in terms of flavour experience, it also wasn’t something to remember.

The “potato gratin” which was served as a side was a potato gratin. Frankly, I’ve had better.

What is quite nice is the magnum bottles they offer, e.g., the “Tinto de la Casa Riccitelli, Malbec, 2015, Magnum” (CHF 136.00) which was absolutely enjoyable. And the place itself is decent as well, simple, traditional, held in wood, and generally okay. What isn’t so great is the service. Not sure what happened that evening, but I had to walk up to the counter twice to ask for the bill and then for them to show up, so we could pay. Not sure what was the issue, but it seems to be the weakest point in any restaurant really – whenever you want to leave, to give tip, to hand over your hard-earned money, they seem to evaporate into thin air. Something I fail to understand.
