There is no such thing as typical dishes from Hanover, but there is German food: Restaurant Broyhan Haus (14. May 2022)
Since I have never been to Hanover before, I was looking forward to trying some dishes which are typical to Hanover. Turns out, there is no such thing as a “typical dish from Hanover” but it’s really just German food. That being said, I was looking forward to trying something which was at least typical to Germany, so I went for “Broyhan’s special beer soup, deliciously spicy” (EUR 6.00) as a starter, and it was that. Deliciously spicy. Well, to be fair, it was rather heavy since there were beans and sausages in the soup – definitely delicious but also quite heavy. You wouldn’t taste much of the beer itself but it was definitely an interesting combination of different flavours.
As a main dish, I went for something which I usually don’t eat too often when not in Germany, i.e., the “suckling pig roast, served with sauerkraut, fried potatoes, and special beer sauce” (EUR 18.50) and it was, again, a rather heavy dish. The suckling pig roast was great in terms of flavour and crispiness – absolutely enjoyable. However, to be honest, it was also rather heavy and hefty. The sauerkraut was highly enjoyable but it was also absolutely bugging me for the rest of the day.
The place is rather simple in terms of interior design. But, despite being simple, it was appealing in terms of design – a lovely traditional setting.
The waiter was friendly and swift and made sure we had everything we needed within a short period of time – friendly staff, good (but heavy) food, and ultimately fair prices. So, if you’re looking for a rather rich German food experience, I can definitely recommend you to try the Broyhan Haus in the heart of the old town of Hanover.
