A great Bib Gourmand find for lunch: Restaurant Ergon House (21. June 2022)

I love the ‘Guide Michelin’ app, since it does not only guide you to the starred restaurants, but also to the ‘Bib Gourmand’ recommendations, where you can find great bites in a lovely setting for very fair prices. For lunch, I wanted to have a few small bites like the “Pita bread” (EUR 2.50) which I actually had just ordered to enjoy with the hummus – so I thought it was going to be plain Pita bread, but it turned out to be seasoned with olive oil and salt. Not saying this was bad, not at all, actually, but it was not ideal to scoop up the hummus. In any case, though, the Pita bread is of high quality and quite delicious – definitely recommended.

The “Greek salad with Pita bread, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, grilled peppers, feta cheese, onions and Kalamon olives” (EUR 12.50) was mind-blowing. The tomatoes are so ripe, so real, so incredibly full of flavour that you would just not be able to forget their intense aroma. And in combination with the feta cheese crumbles, the onions, the olives, and the cucumbers, it makes for a perfectly refreshing lunch bite. However, the Pita bread in there didn’t do much for me in terms of experience.

The “zucchini fritters with feta, fresh herbs and tzatziki” (EUR 9.50) were quite nice. Something a bit different, something a bit surprising, and very different from the other dishes. The “hummus from chickpeas and sumak” (EUR 5.00) on the other hand was quite a bit of a disappointment since the hummus was too coarse for me. I love it when the hummus is smooth, creamy, and easy to scoop up. Unfortunately, in this case, none of these were the case.

The Ergon House is not only nice because they serve quite good food, but also because the service is (mostly) great. They are friendly and attentive – but not at all times. Sometimes you have to wave at them to make sure they notice you, else, it will take quite a bit until someone shows up and takes your order.

But besides the relatively good service, the place is also nice in terms of atmosphere and design.

All in all, I absolutely enjoyed dinner at the Ergon House – and it is definitely a place I can recommend you to visit when you’re looking for a nice and smooth lunch experience in a lovely (and cold) setting during the hot summer days in Athens.
