A lovely local French bistro: Restaurant Le Hibou (8. July 2022)

| August 8, 2022 | 0 Comments

I ended up in the Le Hibou since it was a local favourite of friends – and I must say, it’s quite nice. A simple French bistro with a good selection of tasty dishes. We went for the “guacamole maison, chips de mais” (EUR 14.50) which was quite nice. Frankly, I’m not too big a fan of guacamole usually, but this one was actually quite enjoyable.

The “véritable houmous” (EUR 15.50) was surprisingly good, since it was of good quality and texture – unlike so many hummus’ I have tried. This one was quite enjoyable.

The “pain pita” on the other hand was very non-generous. Like almost in any restaurant where I had hummus. I’m not sure why, since it seems there is never enough pita bread around. So, I often do wonder why one would not bring more upfront already.

The “burrata, tartare de tomates, basilic” (EUR 19.50) was quite nice. The quality of the burrata was good and the variety of the different tomatoes was quite exquisite. Also, I really liked that it was not just a ‘regular’ kind of burrata with tomato exercise.

The “belle entrecôte (280gr)” (EUR 35.50) served with “haricots verts” was quite okay. The meat was definitely not the best one I have had in my life, but the quality was good, it was aromatic, and overall enjoyable.

The idea was to get one slice of cheesecake for the table – and the waiter just decided to slice it in four pieces. And serve it that way, without actually charging more. Which is quite lovely. The “cheesecake bowl” (EUR 12.50) was something I was able to enjoy, although I most often do not really enjoy sweets.

The place is simple but has its very own charm and atmosphere. The waiter was attentive, friendly, and swift. And managed to remain jovial throughout the evening – but not the annoying kind of jovial but the ‘nice’ kind of jovial. While it’s nothing super amazing, it’s definitely a great down-to-earth place with tasty dishes.
