In the middle of nowhere but great for fish dishes: Restaurant Fisch-Haus (30. July 2022)

The very same applied as every day – it’s just not easy to find a decent restaurant at the Scharzmützelsee on a weekend. However, the Fisch-Haus is actually decent (although the name is kind of overly simple) when it comes to enjoying seafood. I went for the “marinated tuna (with cucumber, melon, yuzu-sake-espuma)” (EUR 15.00) which was nice and refreshing to start.

The “matjes fillet (with housewife sauce (whatever that is?), salad and roasted potatoes)” (EUR 16.50) was good. But it was not really a starter, but more of a main. The fish is intense in its flavour and the portion is huge! Especially, the number of potatoes is breathtaking. I mean, you can almost serve two with this!

Finally, as a main, it was time for the “four different fishes and king prawn (served with a potato vegetable assortment and smokey fish sauce)” (EUR 34.00 per person). At first, when I saw the plate, I was a bit sceptical. However, when I finally tried the different fishes, it turned out they were delicious. Not every single one to the same degree, but there was an “eagle fish” (Adlerfisch) which was absolutely mouthwatering tasty!

What I liked about the place, besides the good food, was its authenticity. There is no paper menu, but there is this thing which they bring to your table and then you get to pick from there what you want.

The view from the terrace is quite nice overall – again, if you book earlier you manage to get a place right next to the lake and, accordingly, the view is better.

The place is, overall, absolutely lovely. The only thing which wasn’t necessarily outstanding was the service. I mean, they were functional and brought everything you needed within due time. However, they were not really super motivated and somehow the face of the waiter attending the table was gloomy. Sure, there might be personal issues, but it just didn’t feel like he wanted to be there, and that has somehow an impact on the overall mood.

In any case, I can recommend you to try the Fisch-Haus – just book in advance!
