An great amazing lunch bargain: Restaurant Virens (5. August 2022)

While I have been in the vicinity of this area a couple of times, I somehow never realized the Virens – which might have been due to the fact that it is located in a hotel, and you don’t really grasp it from outside. However, since it was listed on the Guide Michelin app as a ‘Bib Gourmand’, I decided to give it a try and went for the “menu (incl. water and coffee)” (EUR 28.00) which started with a few olives on the house as soon as you had ordered your meal.

As a first course, I went for the “aubergine (flame-cooked aubergine with hotpot sauce and crispy lentils)” which was a bit smokey in flavour, but overall quite enjoyable.

Since I didn’t really want to have dessert, I asked if I could change the menu for two starters instead, which was possible. So, I went for the “burrata (burrata with zucchini, light basil pesto and candied tomatoes)” (+ EUR 4.00) which was nice in terms of taste. The fact that the burrata was already cut open and all over the plate was somewhat not optimal, but the combination of the candied tomatoes and the pine nuts was actually delicious.

The “hake (hake stew in green sauce with fresh peas from the Maresme)” (+ EUR 6.00) was not really a ‘stew’, but a more actual piece of fish – which was absolutely tasty and lovely. The green sauce with the peas definitely added to the flavour and texture – and the fish skin was nicely crispy and, therefore, super enjoyable.

The place itself is simple yet lovely – and so is the staff. They are attentive, friendly, and making sure at all times you get what you want / need.

All in all, the Restaurant Virens offers a great lunch deal – the food is good, the services is lovely, the atmosphere is nice, and the price is absolutely fair. So, if you’re in the vicinity, it’s definitely worth stopping here for a brief lunch break.
