A great place for fresh seafood in central Berlin: Restaurant Funky Fisch (12. August 2022)

I selected the Funky Fisch since the place had good ratings on Google Maps – and I must say, rightly so. It is specialized on fish and offers fresh fish from the counter – as well as a couple of starters. I went for the “sea bream ceviche (corn, onions, mango, lemon, coriander, chilli)” (EUR 20.00) which was refreshing, lovely, and nicely spicy. The fish was a bit chewy, which wasn’t entirely optimal, but other than that, I liked it quite a lot.

The “prawn taquitos (grilled red prawn, onions, coriander, crème frâiche, tomato-chili-salsa)” (EUR 9.00) which were the second starter I went for looked a bit boring, but turned out to be quite tasty all in all. Personally, there was a bit too much liquid, since the taco was dripping quite a bit when you prepared it. Other than that, quite a tasty bite.

I went for the “Mahi Mahi (148 gr) from the counter, served with spicy miso sauce and Funky Fisch rémoulade” (EUR 22.20) and had ordered additional “wild broccoli (with apple, sesame, Cajun)” (EUR 9.00) and I must say, it was good – but it was not as good as the starters. The fish is fresh and rich in terms of flavour, but it was also a rather small piece. I mean, all in all, it’s fine, and you have to pay for fresh food, but somehow it felt like the amount you get – compared to the starters – doesn’t really fit. I really liked the wild broccoli though – I mean, generally, but also in the specific way it was served.

What I like quite a bit is the fact that you can see the kitchen and watch them prepare your food, if you want to. In my experience that is always a good sign – and it turned out to be tasty, so I can re-confirm my personal observation.

The fresh fish counter is quite lovely too and offers a wide variety of different fresh fish. Definitely worth spending some time here and figuring out which fish you want as a main.

All in all, I can absolutely recommend you to visit the Funky Fisch, especially if you are into seafood. The staff was super caring, friendly, and making sure I had everything I needed and wanted. What I would highly recommend you though is to book a table in advance since the place was relatively crowded.
