A truly outstanding experience with flawless service: Restaurant Gärtnerei (13. August 2022)

| September 22, 2022 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Gärtnerei is listed as a Bib Gourmand in the Guide Michelin app and, personally, I understand why. I started with a “Basil Smash (Tanqueray gin, home-made basil sugar, fresh basil, fresh lemon juice)” (EUR 12.00) which was nice and full of flavour – perfect to start the dinner.

As a small amuse bouche from the kitchen, they served a “corn purée, fried kohlrabi leaves, radish, peas” which was surprisingly simple, but delicious. I liked the corn purée since it somehow reminded me of Mexican dishes, which so often have an element of corn as a basis.

As a starter, I went for the “East sea fish ceviche, sweet potato purée, leche de tigre, platano chips” (EUR 19.00) which didn’t look too much like a ceviche at first (since there was a bit much salad), but turned out to be quite lovely. The flavours were great, the fish was smooth and intense – and the whole combination of different textures really made for a good bite.

The “roast beef (Tiroler Almvieh, 250gr), wild broccoli, Pommes Alumettes, béarnaise” (EUR 38.00) was somehow not really what I had expected since I had expected sliced roast beef stripes and not really a proper piece of meat. It turned out to be quite tasty though – the meat was prepared perfectly medium rare and was optimally seasoned – so every bite, even without any kind of sauce, was just a really savoury trip in your mouth making your taste buds go wild. The wild broccoli, which was below was great as well – and the sauce béarnaise, despite a bit atypical, was light and lovely in combination with the Pommes Alumettes.

For dessert, I went for the “tangerine sorbet with Thai basil, aqua faba baiser, flamed pineapple” (EUR 11.00) which was refreshing, light, and nice. Very much a dessert and, therefore, not my favourite course of the evening, but definitely something I can recommend you to try.

What was exquisite was the service – the waiter was super friendly, super attentive, and making sure you would be happy at all times. What was impressive was the speed and quality of service. The place was still quite packed upon arrival, but he managed to be there all the time and bringing the ordered beverages and the like rather quickly. Frankly, chapeau, great service like you don’t find it too often any more these days (unfortunately)! One thing which was also rather amazing was the fact that if you paid with the “Luca app” (yes, the one used for Corona) you would save 20% on your bill – which pays off quite a bit and allows you to be super generous with the tip, and still save money compared to the original bill. The only little downside was the fact that the chairs are quite cushioned, which is comfortable, but not too much if you are actually seated outside at about 30° Celsius. Other than that, go for it – great place!
