Decent Asian dishes at the Spanish seaside: Restaurant Carnaval (14. September 2022)

Frankly, it’s maybe not the most natural thing to eat Asian in Spain, but somehow it was time to eat an everyone was starving, so we picked a place which offers good food, even if not very local. I still tried to get my local share of food. I went for the “edamame with chilli and garlic” (EUR 6.25) which were much better than many edamame I have tried in the past. The combination of garlic and chilli really makes for a tasty dish.

To get some local flavours, I went for the “croquetones de Jamón Ibérico y boletus (3 units)” (EUR 10.50) which were not exactly cheap with EUR 3.50 per piece, but they were quite delicious as they were full of flavour, had a nice filling, and were just overall enjoyable.

The “albóndigas al curry Madrás con cebolla caramelizada” (EUR 9.20) were somewhat special as they were having a very different taste from the albóndigas I know from other places. The combination with the caramelized onions and the curry was not only interesting, but also rather enjoyable.

Even though the portion was huge, the “ensalada Thaï con solomillo de ternera, mango fresco, cebolla, jengibre, lemongrass, chilli, lima, menta y cilantro” (EUR 21.75), the salad was quite refreshing and, therefore, not getting over the top in terms of amount to eat. It was definitely a stretch in terms of amount (could easily be shared by two to three people), but it was enjoyable since it was light and the meat was tender and aromatic.

The staff in the Restaurant Carnaval is friendly and attentive, and you don’t have to wait for too long to get your dishes as they are relatively swift. Other than that, they are friendly, and the atmosphere is clean and functional – not the most pretty restaurant I’ve been to, but one which serves good dishes. So, if you’re looking for something not too local and a bit more of an Asian flavour, the Carnaval is a great choice.
