A delicious invitation-only dining experience: Restaurant Casual @ Swiss Re (22. September 2022)

| November 2, 2022 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Casual in Swiss Re is an invitation-only restaurant – and you have to be invited by an employee of Swiss Re to be able to come in. And I must say that the Casual is actually quite a nice restaurant since it offers a great atmosphere, super friendly service and decent food for a very good price.

To start the evening, we went for the “Berkel Plate” (CHF 12.00) which is an assortment of antipasti which was quite nice. Nothing too exciting, nothing too special, but decent and enjoyable.

Subsequently, you would go for a “three-course menu” (CHF 59.00) where you get to pick three courses from the menu. And it doesn’t matter if you want to have three starters, three main courses, or three desserts. It’s entirely up to you, and the price doesn’t change a bit.

Firstly, a small amuse bouche (“celery croquette with tonka mayo”) was served which was nice to get your palate started, but was a bit heavy on the acidity side.

I went for the “cream of carrot soup with red Thai curry (vegi spring roll, mustard cabbage)” as a first course. The soup was absolutely lovely, but they were too generous when it came to putting sprouts in there. I mean, the thing was super full, so it was hard to eat the soup without making a mess out of it. The spring roll was nice and crispy, and went well with the mustard cabbage with which it was served.

Secondly, I went for the “caesar salad (Parmesan, mini lettuce, capers, egg yolk cream)” as I was craving for something light after a week of the rather heavy Saudi Arabian food experiences. The salad was nice, but not as light as I had envisaged, since the dressing was relatively heavy.

As a last course, I went for the “sea bass (kohlrabi, spinach, grapes, poultry gravy)” which was absolutely enjoyable. Definitely a good and tasty bite – as you would wish it to be. But then again, nothing absolutely extraordinary either – good, decent food, and that for an extremely fair price! That’s what you get at the Casual.

What you also get is a lovely atmosphere, and great service! And a pretty decent wine bargain. The “Avignone, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, 2015” (CHF 49.00) is a nice, light Italian red which went well with the whole menu.

To sum it up, if you have the opportunity to try out the Swiss Re restaurant Casual, you should take it. It’s definitely a nice experience!
