Quite decent Asian-inspired dishes in a nice but busy setting: Restaurant Barbro (22. October 2022)

| December 11, 2022 | 0 Comments

After a party-like experience at Punk Royale, it’s not too easy to find a place which would still work in the evening, but the Barbro definitely works. The place is quite full, quite packed, so booking in advance is a must. And it offers a nice selection of tasty Asian-inspired dishes with friendly service. I went for the “Big Bird (pisco, size, sesame, agave, lime, egg white)” (140.00 SEK) to get the evening started, and it was quite nice and refreshing.

Then, it was of course time for my favourite meal to get started when eating at an ‘Asian’ place – “edamame beans with seal salt” (65.00 SEK) and they held what they promised, they were edamame with sea salt.

Then it was time to try a few other dishes like the “kimchi (fermented cabbage with Korean red pepper, ginger, carrots)” (60.00 SEK) which was super nice. I find kimchi too often too intense and, therefore, not enjoyable. But not in this case, it was good, smooth, and rich in flavour.

The “broccolini (curry, spinach, Valencia almonds, goat cheese aged 24 months)” (140.00 SEK) as my absolutely favourite vegetable, was good. Not sure why it needed the goat cheese on top, but it wasn’t bad either.

I personally liked the “fried chicken sweet n sour (lemongrass, Korean red pepper, sesame)” (145.00 SEK) quite a bit. The meat was tender, rich, and full of flavour – and easy to peel off the bone.

The “spicy tuna (tempura fried, kimchi, avocado, chilli mayonnaise, tamarind sauce)” (190.00 SEK) was overall lovely as well. Simple, but good bites.

The “duck liver taco (sultan raisin jam, yuzu, candied pistachio, grapes)” (140.00 SEK) was something you must like to enjoy it. But since I like liver quite a lot, it was highly enjoyable and definitely something I would order again.

The “hand-cut beef tartar (zucchini, shiso aioli, jalapeño, pumpkin seeds, nori)” (145.00 SEK), which was hidden under the cucumber slices, was nice and definitely enjoyable as well. The pumpkin seeds were a few too many for my personal gusto, but other than that, it was highly enjoyable.

The last order were “fried beef dumplings (coriander, sriracha, truffle mayonnaise, scallion)” (140.00 SEK) which were good but way too many. They were nicely crunchy, had that great beef flavour, and would be something you would want to dig in (if you are not too full like I was).

As mentioned, the place is quite nice, modern, spacious, people are friendly, the staff is swift and takes care of you.

So, all in all, the Barbro is a lively, but also lovely place, which offers good, Asian-inspired dishes for fair prices in a nice setting. Booking in advance is a must to get a table on a Saturday evening.
