A very traditional Swedish restaurant experience: Restaurant Prinsen (23. October 2022)

| December 12, 2022 | 0 Comments

The Prinsen is a very traditional Swedish restaurant where you don’t find a lot of tourists, but mainly locals. Once you’re seated, and have patiently enough waited for the menu to be brought to your table, you will be served some bread and butter. And the bread as well as the butter are both quite lovely to get started.

Since I wanted to get a full load of the local dishes, I went for a few different ones to get started like the “Löjrom Fran Bottenviken (30gr) (vendace roe, butter fried toast, red onion & lemon)” (335.00 SEK) which was absolutely delicious! Not exactly on the cheap side to be honest, but absolutely mouth-watering. Just perfect.

The “Lerpottasill (matjes herring from Norröna, egg, potatoes, red onion, dill, sour cream & browned butter)” (185.00 SEK) was decent as well but didn’t reach the flavour profile of the previous dish.

Last but not least, the “Rabiff Av Hjort (tartare of venison, pickled silver onion, cress, truffle mayonnaise, fresh truffle & crispy Jerusalem artichoke)” (225.00 SEK) was something I enjoyed quite a lot. I am not sure I ever had the chance to enjoy venison tartare – and it’s nice since it’s intense, full of flavour, and has a nice bite to it.

As a main, I figured I wanted to try something which is typical, and world-renowned due to IKEA – meat balls! The “Vara Hemtrillade Köttbullar (meat balls in cream sauce, lingonberries, pickled cucumber, potato purée)” (245.00 SEK) were quite a big portion and although they don’t really look like anything special, they were super enjoyable and quite delicious for lunch. You definitely have to walk quite a lot afterwards to digest the sheer amount of food, but other than that, they are great.

The place is lovely since the interior of the place is full of history and comes across as an institution which has been there for years. The service is a bit similar, professional, but somewhat ‘dry’ and ‘stuck up’, although you get everything you ask for and ordered in the right way, it is not like you’re feeling too welcome being there. Other than that, I can absolutely recommend the Prinsen, and would also highly recommend you to book your table well in advance.
