Nice, but not exceptional Palestinian cuisine: Restaurant Mama’esh (12. November 2022)

I was looking for the best rated Middle Eastern restaurants in Dubai, and found the Mama’esh. And frankly, I’m not sure, I agree a 100%. Sure, the place is nice, and the food is good, but if this is one of the three best Middle Eastern restaurants, then I’m not sure, I see hope for the place. In any case, it is worth booking in advance since the place was packed on a Saturday around lunchtime. I went for “hummus with meat” (32.00 AED) as a starter, and it was a perfect sizing, since with two pieces of Arabic bread, you’d have enough to enjoy the full plate of hummus.

The “lahm bil ajeen with pomegranate and yogurt” (18.00 AED) was quite nice. At first, I was a bit confused by the yogurt since you have to add it manually by spoon to the dish, but in combination it works quite well and was overall enjoyable.

The “halloumi with Za’atar and vegetables” (26.00 AED) works well, but the small halloumi pieces make eating it a bit tricky, since they topple off the bread. Other than that, the dish is light, refreshing, and enjoyable.

The last bite I’ve had (which they somehow tried to serve me twice), was a “Palestinian Za’atar Mutabba” (5.00 AED) which was interesting, but not something I would necessarily reorder. A bit too dry for my personal gusto.

The place itself is located in a mall, and is only very limitedly appealing. However, if you sit outside, you get to see a bit of nature, which makes the whole thing a bit nicer. The service is, once they realize you’re there, actually quite friendly and makes sure that you can place your order. When you need them afterwards, though, it’s hard to find them, since they seem quite busy. So, that I finally had to get up, walk to the counter to pay instead of getting the bill at the table. But, other than that, the place is quite nice and serves decent food. Not in a way that you need to get back, but decent.
